Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles is entering a new chapter with the announcement of her seventh studio album, Good Grief, set for release on August 28.

Alongside the album announcement, Bareilles has released the project’s first single, “Home,” giving fans an early glimpse into what promises to be one of her most personal records yet.
Marking her first studio album since 2019’s Grammy-winning Amidst the Chaos, Good Grief explores themes of loss, healing, resilience, and hope. The 14-track project was largely self-produced and recorded in Woodstock, New York, with longtime collaborators and acclaimed musicians joining her throughout the process.
Speaking about the album, Bareilles shared that the songs felt like “transmissions” rather than attempts to explain the world, expressing hope that the music offers comfort and healing to listeners navigating their own challenges.
The album’s lead single, “Home,” was inspired by a conversation between Stephen Colbert and Anderson Cooper about grief and loss. Bareilles describes the song as an invitation to listen to one another’s stories and connect through shared experiences.
The project also features notable collaborators including Brandi Carlile, Ingrid Michaelson, Andrea Gibson, Joe Tippett, and Megan Falley. One of the album’s standout tracks, “Salt Then Sour Then Sweet,” features Brandi Carlile and was co-written with the late poet and activist Andrea Gibson.
Adding to the excitement, Bareilles is also the subject of a new documentary, Sara Bareilles: Good Grief, which will make its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival on June 4. The film offers an intimate look at the making of the album and explores grief, creativity, friendship, and healing through music.

Fans will also have the opportunity to experience the new music live during the upcoming Good Grief Tour, which kicks off September 9 in Boston and includes stops in New York City, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Seattle.
Known for hit songs like Love Song, Brave, and her award-winning work on Waitress, Bareilles continues to be one of music’s most respected songwriters and storytellers.
With a new album, documentary, and tour all arriving this year, 2026 is shaping up to be a major year for Sara Bareilles.
